Easy Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern

Hello!

I have been on a crocheting spree this past week!  It has been wonderful, and I fee so productive.

Yesterday, for one of my projects, I made an ear warmer, but did not follow a pattern.

Yup, that is the one!  I made this adorable ear warmer yesterday, posted this collage on Instagram (follow me @chirpinbirdie) and was asked for the pattern.

I love when I make something up and a fellow crochet artist likes it so much that they ask for a pattern!  So, today's project consisted of another headband, and writing down a pattern for it.

First some abbreviations:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
st = stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet

You will need some worsted weight yarn and a size H/5.0mm hook.

Now lets begin!

Ch 56

Row 1 - 2 dc in second chain from hook, *skip the next two chains, 1 sc and 2 dc in next chain**, repeat from * to ** until there are only 3 chains left, skip two chains and 1 sc in last chain

Row 2 - ch 1 and turn, 2 dc in first st (the sc from the previous row), *skip two dc, 1sc and 2 dc in next stitch (the sc from the previous row)** repeat from * to ** until the end and then 1 sc in the turning chain

Continue row 2 until you have your desired thickness.  I like 9 rows, and then end off.

You can change colors by simply fastening off the current color and slip stitching the new color into the last sc of the previous row.  Then just as before continue following row 2.

Now, you have a beautiful rectangle!

Decide which side you like best, and fold it so that side is on the inside and the two ends are together.  Next you simply sew the two ends together.

It is that easy!  You have just completed a fabulous ear warmer!

Of course, you can leave it just the way it is and it will be great!  Or you can follow your favorite flower pattern and sew it on to the band to make it spectacular.

This is the flower I put on my band.  It is actually two flowers sewn together.

Here is the finished product.

I hope you enjoy this pattern!  Have fun with it and show me all of the beautiful colors you use on the ChirpinBirdie Facebook page

UPDATE: There is now a matching fingerless glove pattern to match this headband!  April Reeves has the pattern available as a free Ravelry download.  Make sure to thank her for the free pattern!

~Best Wishes~

    1. I didn't follow a specific pattern.
      What I do for all of the flowers I use on headbands is:
      ch 2
      10 hdc in second ch from hook, slip stitch into first hdc
      ch 1, 2 hdc in each hdc around, slip stitch into first hdc (20hdc)
      ch1 1, sc in first hdc, *ch 3, skip one hdc, sc in next hdc** repeat from * to ** around, slip stitch into first sc
      slip stitch into first ch 3 space, *hdc, 2dc, 1 tr, 2 dc, 1hdc, 1 sc, slip stitch into next ch 3 space** repeat from * to ** around
      Finish off, leave a long enough tail to sew to headband

      For the inner circle use a second color
      ch 2
      8 hdc in 2nd chain from hook, slip stitch into first hdc
      ch 3, slip stitch into next hdc, *ch 3, slip stitch into next hdc** repeat from * to ** around
      Finish off, leave a long enough tail to sew onto flower

      Then I sew the inner circle to the big flower, and sew the big flower to the headband.

      I hope this helps!
