Bench Dedication - Trail of 100 Giants

Hello all!

I hope you are well.

This is a somewhat unusual post for me - as it has nothing to do with any type of craft, or Jixer.
It does have to do with my Great-Uncle Chuck (aka Reverend Dr. Charles White), and the US Forest Service allowing the Giant Sequoia National Monument Association dedicate a bench in his honor on the Trail of 100 Giants.
In his life, my uncle helped lay the groundwork for many foundations and associations, including the Giant Sequoia National Monument Association - one of the other big groups he helped from the beginning is the North American Interfaith Network.

Back to the bench though - it is a pretty huge deal for the Forest Service to allow such a dedication to happen!  If anyone deserves to be remembered for all of those he helped, it is my Uncle Chuck!

This plaque on the bench sums it up the best!

If you are in California, I highly suggest walking the Trail of 100 Giants.  It is mostly handicapped accessible, and something even the small kids can walk without you having to pick them up!

Here is the bench from the main trail.  If you do visit the trail, the bench is labeled as the meditation bench, and is the only bench located on a spur.

This is the view from the bench.  It is absolutely beautiful!
There are two giant sequoias straight across from the bench.

A closer look at the two giant sequoias across from the bench.
The beauty is astounding!

This is my Great-Aunt Lizzie, with one of the members of the Giant Sequoia National Monument that worked alongside my uncle (who affectionately described Uncle Chuck as a pain in the ass), and one of our guides on the trail (you don't need one if you walk it), Dale.

My Great-Aunt Lizzie, me, and my dad on the bench.
We were the three people in the room, holding my Uncle Chuck, when he passed last October.
Aunt Lizzie held his left hand, I held his right hand, and my dad held him up in a sitting position, because he didn't want to lay down.

My Uncle Chuck inspired me more than I can ever explain!  He had his own spiritual beliefs (obviously, he was a Reverend, and spent years leading different churches), yet he never put others down for having different beliefs.  He learned about other's views instead of judging.  This is something that many people can learn from.  He always encouraged my want to learn about every religious belief, and I actually inherited so many new books from him, that I had to buy a new bookshelf!

Of course, there are many beautiful sequoias on the trail - hence, Trail of 100 Giants!
Honestly, sequoias are my favorite tree, and one of the best perks about living in California!

I had some fun playing with my fish-eye lens as things for the dedication were winding down.
It had been a while since I used it, since I often forget that I have it.

I also had the opportunity to spend some time with my family!

My wonderful, adorable parents - married now for 36 years!

My two younger cousins, and I had so much fun hanging back from the group.  There was a lot of giggling happening between the three of us!

I snapped lots of cute photos of my cousin Emily (of Giggles Unedited).

Thanks to my Aunt Teresa, who used my camera to snap this photo of me with my both of my younger cousins! We actually got Shawna into a photo!!!

It would've been unfortunate to miss the chance to strike tree pose in front of one of these giant beauties!

Also, I had to show them some love!
Tree hugging is awesome!

Here is a video made my cousin, Emily!

Thanks for stopping by to read, and look at the photos.
The most important thing I can tell you is to learn about others instead of judging them!

Adventure of the Traveling Wiener

Hello Everyone!

I hope you all have been enjoying the day!  It is laundry day for me, so it is not my favorite day of the week. At least, I have the job looking at all of the pictures from the mini vacation Chris and I took last week, and now I get to share Jixer's first camping trip!

We had a friend from Canada come down for a visit, and spent most of last week in Silicon Valley having fun and being touristy, including visiting the Facebook, Google, Apple, and Stanford campuses.  We had a great time, but decided that we needed to go camping.  Who doesn't love camping?  Especially, camping in California, because we have so many amazing spots to see.

We made the drive from Silicon Valley to San Luis Obispo, and decided to take the Hwy 1 scenic route.  Of course, it was gorgeous, as it always is!  We decided to do the easy camping spot at Lopez Lake, since we would only be down in the area for one night.

Boy, did Jixer enjoy his first time camping!

Here he is waiting to be let out of the tent in the morning.

This was our home for the night.

Big brother Max came camping too, and he always loves camping and spending time outdoors.

We had some neighbors that Jixer did not like!  He would let out a couple of barks every time he caught a glimpse of one (he usually does not bark).

Here he is just sniffing around.

Watching the deer, since he got into trouble for barking.

Jixer kept trying to climb this steep hillside; there must have been good smelling things up there.  Can you spot him?  He is mid-left in the picture.  I know, he is hard to see up there because of his coloring and small stature!

Always a happy puppy when he wakes up in the morning!

Jixer is sad that we only spent one night camping, and cannot wait until the next adventure!

Adventure of the Traveling Wiener

Happy Friday Everyone!!!!

This has been such a beautiful week here on the Central Coast of California!  We had record highs earlier this week, and now it is cooling down but it is still in the 70's which is PERFECT beach weather.  Today Chris and I decided to take Jixer to Morro Bay, so we could eat a good lunch and walk around Embarcadero (the street on the water front).

He loves to watch the birds before he runs through the flock!

Here he is in front of Morro Rock.  He did not care too much about the rock and mostly just wanted to get the birds and play in the water.  But he did stop long enough for Chris to snap this picture.

Jixer always looks so cute during candid shots!

Christopher took this photo of Jixer and me; you can see a little piece of Morro Rock and all three smoke stacks (famous landmark in Morro Bay)

He liked watching the boats come in and out of the bay.

Here I am with my cute little boy!  Enjoying the view of the ocean behind us and Morro Rock in front of us.

The two most handsome boys in the world!!!  Jixer loves his daddy!

Morro Bay is definitely worth a visit!  There is awesome food and great candy...especially the salt water taffy!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!!

~Best Wishes~

Adventures of the Traveling Wiener

Happy Saturday!

Whether you are having a busy weekend or a laid back weekend, I hope that you are having a wonderful time!  Jixer and I made a visit to my grandma today.  Jixer always enjoys trips to grandma's house because she feeds him multi-grain Cheerios.  It was a beautiful California afternoon, so Jixer and I were able to hang out outside and take pictures of some of grandma's pretty flowers.

Jixer very much enjoyed all of the new smells and flowers.

There are so many pretty flowers at grandma's house!

This cute little frog is also a resident in grandma's garden.

Jixer and I hope that you have a wonderful Sunday!

~Best Wishes~

Adventures of the Traveling Wiener

Jixer is out and about again, and he is having fun exploring a new beach.

Sunday, my friend Kaley and I decided it would be a great beach day and of course Jixer came along.  It was a beautiful day and everybody else decided to go to the beach too!  Avila Beach was jammed packed with people (tourists), so we decided to venture over to Shell Beach.  It had been a long time since I walked on Shell Beach, and the last time I was there, it was at night to do some night exposures.

It is a great beach!  The only thing that is different is that there is no sand, so it is a little rough on bare feet.

Shell Beach is the only beach of its kind in our area.

Jixer had a great time playing in the waves...and running from them!

He put his nose down and sniffed in every crevice.

He was covered in the tiny pebbles by the days end.

I just imagine him thinking "Girls, PLEASE! I know I am cute but can the photo shoot be over already!"

Kaley and I were both snapping pictures of little Jixer!

There were several pelicans out catching their dinner, and Jixer enjoyed watching them fly around and diving into the water.

I am pretty sure this Montana born dog is a true beach bum at heart!

~Best Wishes~
